The Vienna Eagles, in double over time, WIN inaugural varsity football game 30-28 against Hamilton County!

It was a great day Saturday for Vienna-Goreville football fans in many ways. It was a beautiful day weather-wise. It was the first football game in 78 years and the Eagles were victorious.
The win came hard-fought in a double overtime with a final score of 30-28.
It would almost be easier to list those locally who were not in attendance than those at the game. A crowd of up to 2,000 was expected and that mark may have been attained.

The Vienna Police Department and Johnson County Sheriff's officers handled the huge volume of traffic. Vehicles were parked as far away as Rt. 146. The hillside near the football field was filled.
The game started on time at 1 p.m. with Allen James announcing from the newly built press box.
"Orange Crush" was everywhere to be seen on young and old.
The first quarter of the game got off to an exciting start with opponent Hamilton County scoring a touchdown and point after and Vienna scoring with a two point conversion. After one quarter Vienna's lead was 8-7.
There was no score in the second quarter.
After the half Hamilton County was not able to score in the third and Vienna put one touchdown on the board.
In the fourth quarter Hamilton County came back to score 15 points matched with only 8 for Vienna tying the game.
The first overtime session produced no points for either team.
In the second overtime Hamilton County scored but couldn't get the point after. Then Vienna came back to score and get the two point conversion.
Vienna quarterback Colten Krelo carried the ball across the line for the victory.
Vienna had 241 yards on the ground, rushing, and only 41 yards passing.
Penalties played a significant part of the game with Hamilton County collecting 12 for 111 yards and Vienna 9 for 80 yards.
Fans swarmed the field following the game. Coach Mike Rude was quoted as saying "I wouldn't trade this win for any one I've ever had."
The Eagles play at Fairfield Friday night with kick-off at 7 p.m.
